How to choose and use essential oils


Finally! As long promised I wrote an article full of information to help You to use and choose essential oils.


The best way to choose Your essential oil is, to smell it.

The characteristics of an essential oil are summoned in its scent.

The scent should be pleasant to You.

Scents have a direct stimulus on our brain.
If You dislike a scent, it can have a negative stimulus to Your brain and might have a negative effect on You or one that You don`t wish to have. An unpleasant scent can be a  constant unpleasant stimulus to Your brain and therefor turn out to be negative stress.

There might be some organic store or herbal store close to where You live, where You can smell the oil before You buy it.  Some shops have test bottles.


If  You don`t have the possibility to smell the essential oil before you buy it, You can choose Your essential oil by

  • its EFFECT
  • its familiar smell because You know the original plant
  • Scent descriptions from different resources
  • Preferences: WHAT DO YOU LIKE/ DISLIKE? e.g. fresh scent, bloomy/flowery scent, wooden/green/conifer scent,  earthy scent, heavy, light, sweet, lemonlike, ….
  • Buy only SMALL AMOUNTS  if You are unsure that You will  like it.

ADHD & Hypersensitive: Come On Baby, Shake It!


I am just re-reading a wonderful book I bought years ago in Findhorn, Scotland.

It is called:  ” Psychic Protection:  Creating positive energies for people and places ”  from William Bloom.
What I really love about this book is, that it’s down-to-earth, with easy & practical advice that is not based on superstitious or super-esoteric beliefs.

I’d like to share especially the following shake advice, not only because I like it and it is fun, but because I think it is very helpful  for ADHDers who are (emotional/ energetic) hypersensitive and also for those Hypersensitives without ADHD.

Psychic? Hypersensitive?
In my opinion being emotional or energetical hypersensitive is not so far away from being psychic. In the meaning of being psychic is something everybody can be.
Psychic for me means to be able to use one or more senses, in a far more extended way. For example :  Seeing more- clairevoyant; hearing more – claireaudiance… And not only to use Your sense(s) more, but to be able to tune in to another frequence.
Maybe the difference of being psychic or hypersensitive, is to be able to use,  to shut off and understand your extended sense(s) and “signals” for the better. Well, at least in the best case!

Feeling attacked?
Another thing hypersensitive and psychic people have in common is, that they might feel energies or moods from other people are stuck on them. That they feel uncomfy at some places, with some people or they are excessively emotional disturbed after sensing or seeing a fight or another extreme situation, even if they are not personally involved in it.
This often ends up in being sad or depressed or angry for no reason.

Some believe this has to do with collecting the energy of other people/ places and  some even believe they get emotionally attacked  by somebody.

For the last day of the ADHD Awareness Month, I wanna share some thoughts about ADHD and sleep issues, like getting to bed, relaxing, sleeping through, getting tired and all these other sleep issues we can have.

Sleep issues are very common for people with ADD.

I always say I don’t have a sleep issue- when I finally go to bed in the late night/ early morning hours,  I sleep well and as long as I can. My only problem is to get up ( in the morning).
For example right now it is almost midnight, I had a long day, but I sit here drinking caffeineited drinks and started writing a post.
As I learned, going to bed very late, is also considered a sleep issue.
Ups! So that means I have a sleep issue, too!?

How many alarms do You set, when You have an important date next day?

I set 2 alarms: one close to my bed that I press snooze for as long as I can ( could be for an hour…) and one farer away of my bed to really get up ( though I managed more than once to sleep over that farer away alarm). If it is really really important to get up, I sometimes set 3 alarms. And You?

Getting to bed earlier vs. late night Creativity flow

I say and I heard from other ADDers, too that night time is the best time for me for creative work, thoughtful thinking, writing, painting, … Best ideas come up when I am over the tiredness and awake again, it’s like if I get over the first attack of evening tiredness, i shake of my ADD distraction and can finally start to focus. Sounds familiar?
Actually night time is for many a good creative time- the house is quiet, the streets outside, too, there is noone to call and noone calls usually at that time, so
Late in the night there are less distractions!

Also you might have planned or tried to start something the whole day, only to be distracted, doing all sorts of other things and finally, when it gets late, you can focus on the actual planned project. Continue reading

I really like the article. Bryan is just pointing out to issues I deal a lot with, when it comes to creativity and not only creativity, but to work and life sucess in general, I would say.

Many ADDers like me, are experts in questioning themselves.
Some questions might be important, for finding better solutions, but some questions-and I would say- MOST OF THE QUESTIONS are about SELF-SABOTAGE: We are putting ourselves down, our ideas, our work flow.

We ask questions that are more likely to destroy our self-confidence.

That often leads to disappointment, destroying the belief  that we can achieve something, destroying interest and lust for a planned project that should be fun and leads to never finishing something we actually wanted to do.

Another thing that is said in the article, I totally refer to, is that by saying: ” I will never finish this” or “I cannot do this” we forget THE POWER OF OUR THOUGHTS:

By saying these things and always thinking about our failure, we give this information out to ourselves and to the “Universe”, so that eventually this information will become true or that in the end we really start BELIEVE we cannot do this, we will never achieve this. Continue reading

Little Cypress Tree – So Focused!


Yesterday on the market I bought a cute little Cypress tree. 🙂

It was standing there between flowers and vegetables and it was talking to me: “Hey you, will you take me home with you, please?”
What a beautiful tree and such a nice question. How could I say no? 😉

Btw., I am not crazy, just a little bit, and yes sometimes plants kinda talk to me. They catch my attention and then somehow persuade me to take them home with me . And I feel sorry for the plants too, seing them in little pots in the super markets and then beeing thrown away when nobody buys them. So yes, my house and balcony is full of plants!

Anyway I was just coming from a meeting with a parents school, where I will offer some workshops about Essential Oils, Bach Flowers and Herbal Medicine next year.

And I thought, what a great way to talk about the Essential Oil of Cypress and show the plant.

When you see a Cypress tree you will understand its uplifting, straight forward, focused energy!
And even the little one I got, already shows this energy.

Actually I dont know what kind of Cypress tree this is. I tried to do some research today, but couldnt find it out. It is probably a Lawson’s Cypress mini-tree.

The Essential oil made from the  Cypress tree, I have been talking about in previous posts, comes from  the mediterranean Cypressus sempervirens.
But still, can you catch this energy? Of focus and clarity? Look how even this small tree here is all in shape naturally, growing straight to the sky, all leaves in place and not messed up and all around the place?! 🙂

I wanted to share this with you, after talking so much about the essential oil.
I ll keep the little tree next to my desk or on the balcony and pay it a visit and let myself get inspired, whenever I need focus and clarity! Probably I will be stuck next to this plant, cuz focus and clarity aint the most given gifts I have! LOL 🙂

An outburst of ADD symptoms … while trying to write an Article… Self-help required!


I am trying to write this article about Essential Oils for focusing, concentration and accomplishing tasks.
And guess what? Almost all my ADD symptoms decided to gather and make the realisation of my project impossible or at least very very difficult.

So here is what goes on:
I have many many ideas and information about the topic. While all these ideas and information are having a crazy dancing party in my head, I try to bring them into a structure, to write them down.

Then there are all these ideas HOW to write the information down: with a little story, with examples, just straight forward in a list, …? I am having a real hard time to decide and straight is anyway impossible for me. 😉

I need several approaches and started writing online to save them as drafts, gather more information and write it on paper, try to structure the information into topics and write more on paper; get frustracted and procrastinate and play online games and spider solitaire over and over.

I try again, with the actual help of Essential oils and use a blend of Rosemary and Lemon for concentrating, just to realize that I start getting very nervous…( and the dancing party in my brain, goes on dancing even harder).

I start to realize I am not grounded at all, I am high up in the air and I remember I haven’t  eaten yet. Well ok. Lets have something to eat, cuz eating also helps with structure an calming down. And I put away my essential oils blend and decide to use a mixture with Cypress ( for decision making and accomplishing tasks), Juniper against nervousness and a little bit of Ho-Leaves for inspiration and calming down.

And maybe I should stop drinking coffee for now, too?  🙂
Maybe I should go out for a walk and take a break to clear my head?

I really dont know what is going on… Months ago I decided on this article and the longer I think about it, the more difficult it gets. Probably the longer I wait, the more  perfect I wanna make it– something that is impossible to reach, so of course I cannot write it down.
On the other hand, it feels like when I was studying medicine and had to learn about all these illnesses. Getting deeper into a topic and being hypersensitive, too, I started developing or better imagine symptoms on myself.

So this time I develop all the symptoms of the issues I wanna write about?
Scattered, unfocused, undecissive, nervous, not able to realise my ideas and finish a task, totally unstructured,

Well, I am eating my bread now that nearly got burned cuz I forgot it in the oven  and I will try to   start all over again  and eventually write this article. 🙂

Vitamin supplements and Fishoil?


On so many websites and also books, I always come across dietary supplement pills, when it comes to Alternative treatment of ADHD.
I just wanna give my 2 cents and more to this discussion. I am not saying I know everything and I am not denying anyones experiences, I just wonder…. ask, and think aloud!

Actually I don’t like the idea of taking vitamin pills and other supplements, for no severe health problem reason. It is true that  a deficiency can have a negative effect on nerves, behaviour, concentration, the body itself. And I am not saying that vitamin supplement is a never ever!
It is possible to  test a malnutrition and a malabsorption in any laboratory as long as I can afford it. There are specific blood tests, etc. There are also tests, to check if our body is capable of absorbing the vitamins and minerals out of the food we eat and if our body is capable to metabolize what it gets.
When can afford  food and prepare a healthy meal and as long as we don’t suffer from some illness or condition, that makes our body uncapable of absorbing or metabolizing vitamins and minerals, there is most often not a problem with a vitamin defiency, i my opinion.

I wonder, why is there often an advice for supplementary vitamins and minerals when it comes to ADD?
